Killua Zoldyck

Who is this kid?

Killua Zoldyck is one of the main characters in the manga and anime, Hunter x Hunter. He is a 12 year prodigy in a family of assassins, from whom he desperately tries to escape because he’s really not into that life. His best friend, Gon, is the main character of the show and his childlike optimism balances well with Killua’s serious curiosity. Hunters, in this world, refer to a specifc, licensed profession. There are 25 specialties, including gourmet, beast, botanical, treasure, cute, and crime hunters. The types of objects they hunt for can range from food items to games to crime bosses to music and much more.

What do you like about Killua?

I love Killua because he doesn’t let his family’s choices dictate his path in life. He’s intensely determined and creative, yet maintains a mischevious spirit. To give you an idea, he develops a hefty attack using a yo-yo.

What do you like about the rest of this story/show?

One of my favorite things about anime is that the progression can be so slow it makes you wonder how you got where you are. Hunter x Hunter really delivers on this aspect. The show starts out with Gon fishing on a cute little island and his adventures through completing the exam to get his hunter’s license, all with the intention of finding his father. Many, many episodes later, (spoiler alert) a blind girl named Komugi is playing a life or death Gungi (strategy board game kind of like chess) game with an ant/person/who-knows-how-many-other-animals hybrid and everyone has learned how to use magical aura to gain new abilities.
